Reflections on 2023 and Exciting Plans for 2024
As we step into a new year, I’d like to share some reflections on what God accomplished in 2023 and the exciting directions I believe He is leading us in 2024. This past year was one of building, correcting, and planning—focused on developing systems that will serve our church and the Kingdom for years to come.
Financial Systems: Clarity and Accountability
When we began reviewing our financial systems, we discovered they were in disarray, lacking the clarity and structure necessary to steward God’s resources effectively. Late in 2022, I asked Executive Pastor Michael Ivy to assess and overhaul these systems.
Through diligent work, Michael identified numerous areas that needed correction and improvement. Month by month, he implemented necessary changes, ensuring accountability and clarity in every financial transaction. We now have an accurate, sustainable budget and have partnered with a third-party bookkeeping service. Additionally, we are working toward a full audit of our financial systems.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Pastor Michael, who took on this monumental task as a volunteer. His dedication, confidentiality, and expertise have laid a foundation for a financial system capable of sustaining God’s vision for decades to come.
Multiplication System: Launching Our First Church Plant
After nearly 40 years, Connection Point Church is mothering its first church plant! Pastor Jim and Robin Walsh are stepping into the role of lead pastors for Connection Point Church East Lafayette. Their preparation and leadership have been incredible as they build a launch team, secure a location, and create a budget. The official launch is scheduled for October 6, 2024.
This is an exciting milestone, and we invite you to stay tuned for updates as we expand into this new harvest field ready to receive the Gospel.
Pastoral Leadership: Strengthening Our Team
Several significant changes in pastoral leadership occurred in 2023 and early 2024. Pastor Mark and Ashley Whitehead transitioned to new roles with the Indiana District Assemblies of God. Pastor Sarah Hiscox stepped in as interim Youth Pastor, doing an outstanding job leading our youth ministry alongside a dedicated team of volunteers.
As Pastor Sarah transitions to focusing on her calling in public school ministry, Hawk and Abigail Pusey have taken on the roles of NextGen Pastors, leading our children and youth ministries. Additionally, Pastor Narron and Susanne Sloan have joined our pastoral team full-time. Narron will focus on connecting people within our church and building ministry teams to empower laborers for the harvest.
These leadership changes position us for growth and effectiveness in 2024. Let’s welcome these leaders with open arms and continue to support them in prayer.
Prayer System: Strengthening Our Spiritual Core
Jesus reminds us that effectiveness in His Kingdom requires remaining in Him. At CPC, we prioritize both private devotional life and corporate prayer. In 2023, our Sunday morning Passionate Core Prayer (PCP) gatherings continued to grow in passion and attendance. Over 100 people join weekly to call on the Lord for His will to be done.
In 2024, we’re adding a second opportunity for corporate prayer on Tuesdays at 8 AM. Additionally, we’ve trained 20 new prayer leaders, and our goal is to have prayer meetings happening every day of the week.
Under the leadership of Jennifer Thompson, our Healing Prayer Teams continue to see incredible results, including healings, deliverances, restored relationships, and more. These ministries are vital to our mission, and I encourage everyone to participate.
Facilities System: Enhancing Our Space
In 2023, we tackled significant maintenance projects, including repairing mold damage, addressing a water line break, and updating HVAC units. Thanks to your generosity, we also raised over $150,000 for two major projects: installing a new elevator and expanding our Food Pantry. These projects are slated for completion by the end of 2024 and will further enhance our ability to serve our community.
Looking Ahead: Key Goals for 2024 and Beyond
As we look to the future, here are some key initiatives and opportunities to pray for and support:
Parking Lot Rehabilitation: We plan to rehab our parking lot in 2024 at an estimated cost of $250,000.
Elevator Installation and Food Pantry Expansion: These projects will improve accessibility and community outreach.
Discipleship Saturdays: Join us for the inaugural event on February 10th at 10 AM. Let’s grow together in faith and community.
Church Plant: Pray, give, and support the launch of CPC East Lafayette this October.
40th Anniversary Celebration: Mark your calendars for September 13–15, 2024. It’s going to be an epic celebration of CPC’s legacy and future.
Challenges and Concerns
While there is much to celebrate, I also want to address some concerns:
Connection: Too many people remain distant, attending online or only engaging on Sunday mornings. Let’s commit to deeper connection and vulnerability within the body of Christ.
Calling: I pray that more CPC members will step into their spiritual gifts and callings in 2024 (Ephesians 4:11).
Unity: Let’s guard against competing visions and align our hearts with God’s mission for CPC.
Cultural Values: Memorize and pray through our guiding values: Prayer is our Priority, His Presence is our Pursuit, People are our Purpose, and His Mission is our Passion.
Conclusion
CPC is a thriving church advancing the cause of Christ in Greater Lafayette and around the world. Together, let’s spur one another on to even greater things (Hebrews 10). I can’t wait to see what God will accomplish through us in 2024 and beyond!
