Called: Overcoming What Blocks Our “Yes!”
We live in a world where everyone’s trying to get our attention—text messages, DMs, notifications. And let’s be honest, one of the worst feelings is when you send a message and get… nothing. Silence. You’ve been left on read.
But if we’re not careful, that’s exactly how we treat God’s call to share Jesus. We’ve received His message, we’ve experienced His grace, but when He tells us to go and tell, we leave Him on read.
Romans 10 makes it clear:
People call on Jesus because they believe.
They believe because they hear.
They hear because someone tells them.
Someone tells them because someone goes.
Someone goes because they were sent.
And here’s the truth: God is sending us.
We were never meant to just receive the Gospel. We are carriers of the Gospel—sent so others can hear, believe, and call on Jesus.
What Blocks Our “Yes!”
Of course, saying “Yes!” to God’s call isn’t always easy. For many of us, it feels scary or complicated. Over the past few weeks, CPC Youth has been talking through some of the most common obstacles that block our “Yes!” to God:
1. “I’m scared.”
What if people think I’m weird? What if I lose friends? What if they reject me? The truth is—rejection happens. Jesus even said it would (Luke 10:16). But rejection of the message isn’t the same as rejection of you. God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7). Our job is obedience—God is the one who makes the seed grow (1 Corinthians 3:6).
2. “I don’t know how.”
Sometimes the hardest part is just starting. What do I say? How do I bring up faith? The good news is—sharing Jesus doesn’t mean having a perfect script. It means living like Jesus, loving like Jesus, and being willing to start conversations. Ask questions. Be curious. Share your story. Invite someone to church. Pray with a friend. You don’t have to know everything—you just need to be available.
3. “I’m not enough.”
Not smart enough. Not spiritual enough. Not perfect enough. Ever felt that way? You’re in good company. Moses felt unqualified. David messed up big time. The Samaritan woman was still figuring Jesus out when she brought her whole town to Him. What mattered wasn’t their perfection—it was their obedience. Jesus is with us, empowering us.
4. “I don’t want to offend someone.”
Our culture says faith is private, personal, and best kept to ourselves. But the gospel itself is challenging—it calls all of us to admit our sin and need for a Savior. The key is to share truth with gentleness and respect. Don’t argue to win. Stay curious. Share what Jesus has done in your life. The goal isn’t to push people—it’s to point to Jesus.
Saying Yes!
Here’s the bottom line: You were not made just to receive the message. You were made to be a carrier of the message.
The world needs more students, parents, and believers who don’t leave God on read, but instead say, “Yes, I’ll go.”
That “yes” might look like:
Praying for or with someone in your sphere of influence.
Sharing your story of what Jesus has done.
Inviting a friend to Youth or church.
Starting a conversation about faith.
Living in a way that points people to hope.
It doesn’t take perfection. It doesn’t take a platform. It just takes obedience.
So—what’s stopping you from saying “yes”?
